Fireplace FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Pilot lights can go out periodically from wind or other conditions. They are easily relit. Open your lower grill area. There may be a flat metal plate laying in the bottom of this area. If there is, it will have instructions on it for relighting. If there is no plate follow these simple directions. There is a knob that is marked off, on, or pilot. Turn the dial till the word pilot is matched up to the marker on the gas valve. Push and hold the knob in and click your ignitor 3-5 times quickly till the pilot is on making sure the pilot knob is still held in. Wait 15 seconds and then let go of the pilot knob. Make sure the pilot is still on. Then turn the knob back to the on position. You are now ready to use your fireplace. The lighting directions may vary from fireplace to fireplace, and the directions of your fireplace should always be followed first.
Yes, we can provide a turn-key installation, or we can provide as much or as little assistance as you want. Energy Savers is your one stop fireplace shop. We have personnel to help you every step of the way! If you prefer to install your own project, or use your own contractor, we have photo albums with pictures to give you lots of ideas. We do not charge for in home estimates in the St. Paul area.
We recommend professional servicing every 2 years , unless you are noticing sooty logs, hard starting fires, or smell gas fumes. Our service department will check your fireplace for gas leaks, clean your glass, touch up the black paint surfaces, vacuum the heat exchanger area, replace embers if needed, and test fire your unit. The fireplace does need to have the glass cleaned as the whitish film begins to develop. The fireplace manual will be your best guide to follow for your yearly at home service. We now offer wood burning service calls on some models of wood stoves. Call to see if yours is included.
Your chimney size was designed to accommodate the high volume of heat loss that your fireplace produced. When you install a high efficiency woodburning insert, it loses less heat up the chimney which requires you to downsize your chimney flue to assure proper draft. It also gives you added protection from cracks or missing flue tiles. Cleaning is easier because creosote is swept into the insert making it convenient to remove.
Step 1. Take one battery out of the remote control.
Step 2. Pop the battery pack out of the receiver which is located under the fireplace.
Step 3. Turn the switch on the receiver to off.
Step 4. Reverse the procedure from #3 to #1.
Step 5. Push and hold the on button on the remote control until you hear a beep. You are now ready to go!
